Dallas-based Pryzm Labs Inc. has received a patent on lens technology for devices such as cellphones that the company said will enhance creativity in digital media for a variety of uses, including social media.

U.S. Patent No 9569683 is for a detachable “optical enhancement assembly for use with an image-capturing device for altering light signals entering an apparatus of the device,” according to the company.

“We are excited about the capabilities of this technology to bring enhanced creativity to innovators across the digital media landscape.”

“We are excited about the capabilities of this technology to bring enhanced creativity to innovators across the digital media landscape,” said Pryzm Chief Marketing Officer Chris Kraemer in the release. “This technology will bring new tools to visual content creators across platforms — enabling new ways to capture video for Instagram and Snapchat-savvy millennials, YouTubers, music photographers and videographers, and filmmakers alike.”

The assembly is composed of both a fractalizing diffraction pattern to diffract light entering an aperture of an image-capturing device, and of a “securing agent” to allow the assembly to abut the device over its aperture.

Pryzm said the patent also covers a method for altering images captured by a device by changing light signals that pass through the assembly and into the device that is capturing the image.

The company said it will “aggressively” explore development opportunities for its new products covered by the patent and will seek additional partnerships with established media companies to license and use the products.

Pryzm was part of the Spring 2016 class at Tech Wildcatters and was one of 11 startups that participated last fall in Gauntlet Fall Pitch Day at the House of Blues.
