Low latency streaming remapping engine
Patent No. 11170464

Inventor(s): Mihir Narendra Mody (Bengaluru, , IN), Niraj Nandan (Plano, TX), Rajasekhar Reddy Allu (Plano, TX)
Assignee(s): Texas Instruments Incorporated (Dallas, TX)
Law Firm: No Counsel
Application No., Date, Speed: 16909710 on 06/23/2020 (504 days app to issue)

Abstract: A lens distortion correction function operates by backmapping output images to the uncorrected, distorted input images. As a vision image processor completes processing on the image data lines needed for the lens distortion correction function to operate on a group of output, undistorted image lines, the lens distortion correction function begins processing the image data. This improves image processing pipeline delays by overlapping the operations. The vision image processor provides output image data to a circular buffer in SRAM, rather than providing it to DRAM. The lens distortion correction function operates from the image data in the circular buffer. By operating from the SRAM circular buffer, access to the DRAM for the highly fragmented backmapping image data read operations is removed, improving available DRAM bandwidth. By using a circular buffer, less space is needed in the SRAM. The improved memory operations further improve the image processing pipeline delays.

Selective etches for reducing cone formation in shallow trench isolations
Patent No. 11171035

Inventor(s): Jonathan Philip Davis (Allen, TX), Karen Hildegard Ralston Kirmse (Richardson, TX)
Assignee(s): TEXAS INSTRUMENTS INCORPORATED (Dallas, TX)
Law Firm: No Counsel
Application No., Date, Speed: 16567661 on 09/11/2019 (790 days app to issue)

Abstract: Techniques of fabricating shallow trench isolation structures that reduce or minimize the number of trench cones during the formation of shallow trenches. The disclosed techniques introduce separate etch steps for etching shallow trenches with small feature dimensions and for etching shallow trenches with large feature dimensions. As an example, the disclosed techniques involve etching a first shallow trench in a first region of a substrate with a first etching parameter, and etching a second shallow trench in a second region of a substrate with a second etching parameter different from the first etching parameter. Among other things, the etching parameter may include an etching selectivity ratio of silicon to an etch retardant that contributes to cone formations. Because of the separate etch steps, the disclosed techniques allow the sidewall slopes between the first and second shallow trenches to be within a few degrees of deviation.

Assignee(s): Texas Instruments Incorporated (Dallas, TX)
Law Firm: No Counsel
Application No., Date, Speed: 16866647 on 05/05/2020 (553 days app to issue)

Abstract: Frames from an image stream or streams are processed by independently operating digital signal processors (DSPs), with only frame checking microprocessors operating in a lockstep mode. In one example, two DSP are operating on alternate frames. Each DSP processes the frames and produces prediction values for the next frame. The lockstep microprocessors develop their own next frame prediction. The lockstep processors compare issued frames and previously developed predicted frames for consistency. If the predictions are close enough, the issued frame passes the test. The lockstep processors then compare the issued frame to the preceding two frames for a similar consistency check. If the prior frames are also close enough, the issued frame is acceptable. In another example, hardware checkers are provided to compare the present frame with a larger number of prior frames. The hardware checkers provide comparison results to the lockstep processors to compare against allowable variation limits.
