Since joining the middle-market private equity firm in 2022, James Kay has been a driving force behind Crux Capital's growth and value creation efforts, playing a pivotal role in sourcing, evaluating, and executing investment opportunities, the firm said.

Dallas-based middle-market private equity firm Crux Capital has promoted James Kay to partner.

Since joining the firm in 2022, Kay has been a driving force behind its growth and value creation efforts, playing a pivotal role in sourcing, evaluating, and executing investment opportunities while working closely with portfolio companies to implement strategic and operational initiatives, Crux Capital said.

“James’s promotion is a testament to his unwavering dedication and significant contributions to our firm,” Managing Partner Wayne Moore said in a statement. “His leadership and strategic oversight in managing our investments have been invaluable.”

Kay, a member of Crux Capital’s investment committee, has been actively involved with partner companies including:

  • Buff City Soap, a franchisor offering handmade, plant-based personal care products throughout the U.S.;
  • Superscapes, a provider of commercial landscaping services in Texas and Arkansas;
  • Woody’s Brands, a multi-unit operator of entertainment-restaurant concepts across Texas and Louisiana;
  • HTeaO, a franchisor providing iced tea, coffee, snacks, and related products to customers in-store or at drive-thrus across the U.S.; and
  • Uncommon Brands, a holding company built to invest in and scale brands in the restaurant industry

Kay joined Crux Capital after more than four years at Dallas-based Insight Equity, where he had significant experience doing deals in the consumer and commercial services sectors. Since joining Crux, Kay has led multiple acquisitions and has been instrumental in driving growth at the portfolio and firm level.

“I joined Wayne Moore and Crux to help build a world-class investment firm, and I’ve never been more excited about the future of our firm, portfolio, and opportunity set,” Kay said in a statement. “We’re fortunate to work alongside talented executives and entrepreneurs, and we are eager to continue building on our success as we unlock value and drive growth across our investments.”

Crux Capital is focused on a select number of high-quality businesses and collaborates with management teams to maximize value over time.
