Dallas’ Catalyze Partners Acquires Axcend, Whose Systems Let Scientists ‘Bring the Lab to the Sample’

“Our acquisition of the technology addresses a growing $5B market central to pharmaceuticals, environmental monitoring, chemical manufacturing, oil & gas production, and numerous other industries,” said Catalyze Partners' Tricia D’Cruz.

Dallas-based Catalyze Partners has acquired Provo, Utah-based Axcend, a provider of compact, high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) systems and accessories.

“This acquisition opportunity was identified and brought to us through our partner network, underscoring the trust they have in our commercialization prowess,” Tricia D’Cruz, co-founder and managing director of Catalyze Partners, said in a statement. “Our acquisition of the technology addresses a growing $5B market central to pharmaceuticals, environmental monitoring, chemical manufacturing, oil & gas production, and numerous other industries.”

Catalyze Partners, a leader in acquiring and commercializing advanced technology, said Axcend offers solutions that allow scientists to “bring the lab to the sample.” Its HPLC Anywhere system provides dramatic improvements in portability, ease-of-operation, rapid and convenient deployment, all with significantly reduced operating costs and solvent usage, the company said.

Catalyze said the transaction, which closed July 15, is foundational to a robust platform in the company’s analytical instrumentation and measurement division.

Helping scientists ‘solve the most complex health and scientific challenges’

The acquisition includes Axcend’s “revolutionary” lineup of eco-friendly, compact, and portable HPLC instruments and accessories, designed to deliver unparalleled performance and reliability, Catalyze said.

That lineup includes Focus LC, a system which was initially developed at Brigham Young University by noted inventor Milton Lee. The system is engineered to significantly reduce the size, cost, and environmental impact of traditional HPLC systems. That aligns with industry demands for a smaller footprint, portability and sustainability in laboratory equipment, Catalyze said.

“We’re extremely pleased to join forces with the seasoned team at Catalyze Partners,” Axcend CEO Greg Ward said in a statement. “I’m confident that this is the winning formula for development of customer solutions that push the boundaries of scientific analysis and allow scientists to solve the most complex health and scientific challenges.”
