Cosmunity announced recently that Orlando Jones, a respected figure in the fandom world, will help lead the comic app as chief strategy officer. The American Gods actor will aid in exposing the iOS and Android platform to a larger audience.
“We want to bring the excitement of a convention into the palm of your hand. Just because the [Comic Con] ends doesn’t mean the fun has to,” Jones said in the release. “It’s time for the geeks to unite and join Cosmunity. Let’s have some fun.”
The inclusive app functions as an extension of Comic Con culture by providing a platform mirroring Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. Fans of comics, cosplay, and more are able to unite on the application by sharing popular fandom media, directly buying and selling costumes and collectibles, and keeping up with upcoming comic events near them.
To date, Cosmunity has raised $600,000 in seed funding including a $25,000 investment from the UT Dallas Seed Fund. It’s planning to move into a Series A round soon.

“Throughout my career, I’ve worked to connect people of all walks of life, through comedy and entertainment, because I love the passion of the fans,” Jones said. “That’s what Cosmunity is all about — connecting passionate fans with each other in a way that’s never been done before.”
Cosmunity co-founder and CEO Cole Egger, is equally excited about the company’s newest addition.
“Orlando’s knowledge of the many aspects of fandom, as well as his passion and enthusiasm for the community, will be a tremendous asset for Cosmunity as we continue our mission of connecting fans across the world,” Egger said in the release.
