CompTIA: Despite Tech Job Postings Declining, Metro Dallas Holds Onto Its No. 3 Spot

Despite turmoil in the markets and layoffs making headlines, the tech job market remains relatively strong in the Dallas metro area, according to a new report.

Across the country, technology companies added 20,300 net new workers in June, marking the 19th consecutive month of growth, according to nonprofit CompTIA’s latest Tech Jobs Report. And among metros, Dallas ranks among the top three for new job postings, though the number of new jobs added month-over-month has declined.

“The stronger than expected job gains reaffirm the critical role of tech across every sector and every business in the economy,” said Tim Herbert, chief research officer at CompTIA, in a statement. “It also highlights the limitations in projecting company-specific hiring practices to the broader tech workforce.”

Dallas had nearly 28,000 tech job postings in June

According to the report, metro Dallas had nearly 28,000 tech job postings, putting it behind only the Washington, D.C., and New York City areas.

While the number of open positions remains larger than in most other metros, the number of jobs posted in June was down by more than 5,400 compared to May—the second largest monthly drop of any metro area besides Los Angeles, the report notes.

The trends the Dallas area saw mirror the state-level data. The report ranks Texas as No. 2 in tech job posting in June with nearly 58,500 positions, behind only California, which had more than 66,000. California was also the only state that beat Texas in the drop in listings between May and June, with Texas seeing a decline of more than 11,700.

Nationwide, employer job postings for new tech hiring totaled 505,663 last month, up 62% from June 2021, CompTIA said. The professional, scientific, and technical services industry had the greatest amount of tech job postings last month, the report shows.
