Irving-based Caterpillar Inc. has expanded its DFW footprint by purchasing a building it says will help accommodate its continued growth in North Texas.
The building, at 901 W. Walnut Hill Lane in Irving, is near the company’s existing headquarters at Williams Square Plaza in Las Colinas. Both locations will accommodate Caterpillar’s employees and customers, the company said.
Caterpillar has been headquartered in Irving since 2022, when it announced its relocation from Deerfield, Illinois. On Friday, the company said it “is excited to continue expanding its economic footprint and making a positive impact in North Texas.”
Growing impact in the region

The company has had a growing presence and impact in the region since that HQ move. In 2025, the company’s centennial year, Caterpillar and its employees and retirees donated more than $1.9 million to more than 300 local organizations in Texas. Last August, the Caterpillar Foundation surpassed $1 billion in total global giving in a milestone 73 years in the making.
Just last week, Caterpillar’s new, multi-year sponsorship of Dig World at Grapevine Mills was announced. The construction-themed adventure park brand has been featured on ABC’s “Shark Tank” and was slated to break ground today.
Last month, the Dallas Morning News wrote about Caterpillar’s growing focus on its energy business, saying it expects to double its power generation sales by 2030 as global energy demand grows amid an AI-driven data center boom.
With 2024 sales and revenues of nearly $65 billion, Caterpillar is the world’s leading manufacturer of construction and mining equipment, off-highway diesel and natural gas engines, industrial gas turbines, and diesel-electric locomotives. The company does business on every continent, principally operating through three primary segments—construction industries, resource industries, and power & energy. Caterpillar also provides financing and related services through its financial products segment.
