The ultra-exclusive Indian Creek Island in Florida, known as the “Billionaire Bunker,” has added North Texas-based concierge health provider CourMed to its list of amenities for residents, according to a news release.
CourMed offers a membership platform with health and wellness offerings for high-net-worth individuals, financial services companies, family offices, luxury residences, and select neighborhoods.
The so-called “Billionaire Bunker” has been in the news recently, with Amazon founder Jeff Bezos purchasing a $68 million home on the private island last month, according to the New York Post. The island is home to numerous billionaires and celebrities, including Tom Brady, Ivanka Trump, and Julio Iglesias.
Last year, McKinney-based CourMed expanded its operations by opening a regional office in Miami Beach. The company received a $240,000 four-year grant from the Miami-Dade Beacon Council to establish its presence in the area and hire 10 new employees.
“We’re thrilled to be selected as a concierge amenity for the prestigious new billionaire beach bunker,” CourMed CEO Derrick L. Miles said in a statement. “CourMed’s mission is to revolutionize the way people access health and wellness services, and this partnership is a testament to the value we bring to the ultra-high-net-worth individuals and families residing in exclusive enclaves.”
Health care as risk management
Family offices play a crucial role in managing the wealth of ultra-high net-worth individuals, according to Courmed. But, the concierge healthcare startup says, they can overlook the importance of proactive health management. Preventative care and wellness are key to longevity and enhancing quality of life. Adding CourMed’s services recognizes healthcare as a significant aspect of effective wealth management and risk mitigation, the startup says.
Indian Creek Village, the municipality that governs the island, provides residents with a private 13-person police force and mayor, according to the New York Post story. The man-made island provides exclusivity and privacy, with only about 40 homes on 300 acres. Homes rarely go on the market, making Bezos’ off-market purchase all the more exclusive.
The partnership with Courmed highlights a growing demand for luxury health services among the ultra-wealthy.
With CourMed’s concierge health services, residents of Indian Creek Island now have access to personalized medicine and wellness amenities right in their secluded island paradise.
What’s next?
Miles, a long-time healthcare executive, founded Courmed in 2015, launching it in 2018 as a crowd-sourced prescription delivery service. It’s since pivoted to become an end-to-end concierge health and wellness platform offering a wide range of services.
In a recent interview with Black Enterprise, the entrepreneur tipped to a look ahead. “What I’m excited about is a new vertical called Aging Well at Home,” he said. “My parents are getting older, and I hated the experience when my grandparents went to nursing homes. So with CourMed, now individuals north of 70 can get their wellness and healthcare at home; they don’t have to go to a nursing home.”
