Amazon Launches In-Garage Grocery Delivery, Expands Package Delivery in Dallas-Fort Worth

Amazon's new contactless grocery delivery service is initially launching in only five cities, including Dallas. The service can be used in Richardson, Denton, Irving, and Grapevine, among other North Texas locations.

Prime members who are eligible can get a myQ smart garage door opener and also combine that with a Ring smart camera for peace of mind, Amazon says.

After initially launching Key by Amazon in 50 cities, the in-garage package delivery service will now be available in over 4,000 cities nationwide—including multiple North Texas cities.

The contactless service allows Amazon Prime members to have packages stored in their garages by using the myQ smart garage door opener. Once the opener is linked to a customer’s account, they can select “FREE In-Garage Delivery” when checking out from Amazon and be notified when their package is delivered.

Ring smart home cameras and LiftMaster Smart Garage Cameras can also be used to view videos of the deliveries, according to a statement.

“Customers tell us they appreciate the convenience and peace of mind that in-garage delivery offers, and we’re happy to expand the service to thousands of additional cities,” Pete Gerstberger, head of Key by Amazon, said in a statement.

Farmersville, Greenville, Weatherford, Venus, and Palmer are among the North Texas cities where the in-garage delivery system will be available, per a statement. The delivery service is also available in New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Philadelphia, Washington D.C., Houston, and other cities.

“With this latest expansion, Amazon customers in thousands of big cities and small towns across the U.S. can now enjoy another Prime benefit with convenient, contactless deliveries right in their garage, all backed by the Key by Amazon Happiness Guarantee,” Gerstberger said.

Along with the expansion of the in-garage delivery service, Amazon also announced the launch of its Key In-Garage Grocery Delivery service that Prime members can use to have their groceries delivered from Whole Foods Market or Amazon Fresh to their garage. The new service will be available in select DFW cities including Richardson, Denton, Irving, and Grapevine.

According to a statement, the service will only be an option in areas of Dallas, Chicago, Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Seattle until it expands later on.
