Pizza delivered to your door is best served hot and Pizza Hut is turning up the heat.

The Plano-based company rolled out its new oven hot delivery system this week, which promises to deliver pizzas up to 15 degrees hotter. It said the secret to a warmer pizza includes a delivery pouch with 3M Thinsulate Insulation thermal technology, thicker pizza boxes, and a new algorithm that makes delivery faster.

“What consumers want more than anything else is a hot pizza, which is why we couldn’t be more excited about the system we have developed to make sure we serve a hot, crispy, and craveable Pizza Hut pizza every time,” Zipporah Allen, Pizza Hut’s vice president of marketing, said in a release.

The tech behind the delivery pouch is made from the same type of material of space blankets, winter jackets, and home insulation. The pizza box itself features thicker sides to keep heat from escaping and the pizza in place throughout the delivery process. The delivery system is being updated as well and, using an algorithm, can account for things such as weather, construction, traffic, and other irregularities in the delivery pattern.

Pizza Hut also is adding more delivery drivers. So far, it has hired almost 7,000 new drivers, and expects to hire that many more by the end of the year, according to the company.

Pizza Hut spent two years looking into the science and ecosystem of the delivery system before it released its new operations.

It didn’t stop there though. Using the same technology and materials from the pouch it created a Pizza Parka that drivers can wear and pizza lovers can win.

Some features of the parka are

  • Heat Lover’s triple-layer insulation with 3M Thinsulate
  • Weather-resistant outer crust
  • Easy order window to allow users to order pizza from the sleeve
  • Marinara splash guard to protect your phone when ordering
  • Napkin gaiter
  • Dual parmesan and red pepper pockets
  • Oven-hot lining
  • Interior pizza pocket
  • Heat sealed seams

During the month of October (also known as National Pizza Month) customers who place an order via the company’s website or app will be entered for a chance to have a Pizza Parka delivered along with their pizza. Fans also can tweet the pizza slice and flame emoji to @PizzaHut to enter to win.
