The Economic Development Department of the Town of Addison has been honored with a Bronze Excellence in Economic Development Award in the entrepreneurship category for its 2016 project by the International Economic Development Council.

The award was presented on Sept. 27 during the IEDC Annual Conference in Cleveland, Ohio.

The Economic Development Department is housed with the Addison TreeHouse, a resource-driven coworking business incubator, along with 60 existing startups, according to a press release.

“We are proud that the IEDC has recognized the TreeHouse,” Addison Mayor Todd Meier said in the release. “It is also a testament of the success that can be achieved when you bring together key stakeholders and partners to collaborate for a common goal.”

Meier said that, “The Addison TreeHouse is an example of how we support innovative programs.”

The town said that more than 200 new jobs have been created through the TreeHouse’s efforts and that local startups have attracted more than $4.1 million in private investment.
