Ground was broken Friday on the Bezos Academy preschool at 2101 Crouch Road in Dallas, adjacent to The Ridge at Lancaster community.
The preschool will feature four classrooms, and will follow a full-day, year-round schedule. It will open at the same time residents move into the new Ridge at Lancaster community.
Created by Amazon Founder Jeff Bezos, Bezos Academy is building a network of tuition-free, Montessori-inspired preschools in underserved communities in the U.S. Its preschools offer year-round programming, five days a week, for children ages 3 to 5 years.
The Ridge at Lancaster is a three-phase mixed-used development that will bring more affordable and market-rate housing to the growing southern sector of Dallas.
Phase I of the Ridge at Lancaster development will provide 300 units with 270 income-restricted units and the remaining 30 units available at market rate.
A Bezos Academy was announced at a Northeast Dallas senior living community earlier this year
Earlier this year in Northeast Dallas, Forefront Living announced a 10-year lease agreement with Bezos Academy to open a tuition-free, Montessori-inspired preschool at Presbyterian Village North. At the time, that was the first Bezos Academy to be announced in Texas, following the launch of eight tuition-free preschools in underserved communities in Washington State.
Presbyterian Village North is the first senior living community in Texas—and the second nationwide—to host a Bezos Academy on its campus.
