Everything old is young again—or will be soon at one senior living community in Dallas. Generations will mingle in an intriguing experiment by the Bezos Academy, a nonprofit that’s building a network of tuition-free preschools.
Earlier this month, we wrote about two tuition-free, Montessori-inspired Bezos Academy preschools coming to Dallas College campuses in Fall 2022,
Now, a similar opportunity is happening at Forefront Living’s Presbyterian Village North senior living community, near Greenville Avenue and Forest Lane in Dallas.
Forefront Living has announced a 10-year lease agreement with Bezos Academy to open a tuition-free, Montessori-inspired preschool at Presbyterian Village North.
It will be the first senior living community in Texas—and the second nationwide—to host a Bezos Academy on its campus. Created by Amazon Founder Jeff Bezos, the Bezos Academy has built a network of eight tuition-free preschools in underserved communities in Washington state. With this new announcement, it’s expanding even further into the Dallas area.
‘We believe in the power of generations interacting’
“Presbyterian Village North is honored to join with the Bezos Academy to create an environment where children in North Dallas can become creative thinkers, lifelong learners and leaders,” said Tim Mallad, CEO of Forefront Living, in a statement. “We’re grateful for our partnership with LeadingAge Texas, who brought this opportunity to our attention, and we believe in the power of generations interacting.”
“We look forward to supporting the Bezos Academy’s mission of ‘lighting every fire’, which aligns with the Forefront Living mission of ‘making each moment matter,'” he added.
Helping to ‘fill the learning gap’
“We look for partners who share our commitment to service and community,” said Mike George, president of Bezos Academy, in the statement. “It’s wonderful to be working with Forefront Living, our second senior living host, to help fill the early learning gap in North Dallas while also creating opportunities for interaction between generations.”
Opening in Fall 2022
The preschool will be located on the campus of Presbyterian Village North at 8600 Skyline Dr, Dallas. Featuring four classrooms, the school will follow a full-day, year-round schedule.
Like the Dallas College preschools, the Bezos Academy at Presbyterian Village North is slated to open in Fall 2022.
Families earning up to 400% of the federal poverty limit with children aged 3 to 4 are eligible to apply for all three preschools.
Besides offering tuition-free learning, Bezos Academy also provides students with all necessary educational supplies and services, including Montessori materials, books, arts and crafts, field trips, and meals.
More information and an application to the lottery-based selection process will be posted at www.bezosacademy.org once the school opening date is set.
