Dallas-Fort Worth could be getting a new player in the coffee market over the next several years.

California-based coffee store chain Gloria Jean’s Coffees is looking at opening a number of new stores in North Texas, the North Dallas Gazette reported.

Besides bringing jobs, the company is looking at franchise opportunities in the region.

Gloria Jean’s is known for its flavored and specialty coffees and was founded in 1979 by Gloria Jean Kvetko on the outskirts of Chicago.

“[Dallas] is a thriving economy.”
Laina Sullivan

The company was acquired in 2014 by Retail Food Group, Australia’s largest multibrand food franchisor.

The North Dallas Gazette said that the DFW region is one of several in the nation in which Gloria Jean’s is seeking to expand.

“[Dallas] is thriving economy,” Laina Sullivan, Gloria Jean’s director of development for RFG in the U.S., told the North Dallas Gazette. “[It has very strong demographics, prosperous communities, strong retail activity, great consumer demand for coffee … all those things are a dream come true to a tenant that’s expanding.”

Gloria Jean’s Coffees also is planning an expansion into the San Antonio market, the San Antonio Business Journal reported.

“We love Texas and we love the market there,” Sullivan told the Business Journal. “We believe there’s a lot of growth opportunity and once we secure the right franchisees, we want to expand in that market even more.”

The company has 900 locations nationwide and seeks to create a feel of local community coffee houses.

“We really like to get involved in our communities,” Sullivan told the North Dallas Gazette. “We encourage our customers to feel like they have ownership of their coffee shop.”
