The University of Texas at Dallas will debut its new visual arts complex this weekend.
SP/N Gallery officially opens Sunday with its inaugural exhibit, “Critical Mass,” which features work from 45 renowned artists who received their visual arts degree from the Richardson university. Their pieces range from studio art and computer-generated graphics to robotics and installation arts.
The 6,000-square-foot visual arts gallery is located in the Synergy Park North 2 building on the northwest corner of campus. In addition to showcasing students and alumni art, it will be the new home for the Comer Collection of Photography.
SP/N includes two exhibition spaces and two project rooms as well as areas for receptions, preparation, and office space.
“It is my hope that the retrospective exhibition and the new gallery call attention not only to the success of the visual arts during the past 20 years, but also — and more importantly — to the benefits that a vibrant and varied cultural environment bring to the university,” said Dr. Dennis Kratz, dean of UTD’s School of Arts and Humanities, in a release.
There will be an opening reception for the gallery from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday. The Critical Mass exhibit runs through Nov. 11.
