Grand Prairie-based Lockheed Martin Energy has been tapped by the U.S. Department of Energy to improve energy and water efficiency at federal facilities around the country.
Under the contract, Lockheed Martin Energy is one of 21 companies that will implement the department’s Energy Savings Performance Contracts aimed at improving federal infrastructure and saving energy.

The value of the contract was not released.
Each project is a part of an Indefinite Delivery, Indefinite Quantity contract that is shared across all contractors. The contract’s base period is for five years with one 18-month extension option, the release said.
Under previously awarded contracts, the company implemented and developed many projects, including an energy retrofit of the U.S. Embassy in Nicaragua that delivers savings of more than 50 percent in energy use and cost, according to the release.
The company has roughly 1,000 employees worldwide, and delivers comprehensive solutions across the energy industry including energy efficiency, demand response solutions, energy storage, nuclear systems, tidal energy technologies, and waste-to-energy generation.
It was created by Lockheed Martin in the spring 2016, and Frank Armijo was named vice president of the energy unit.
Lockheed Martin Energy is one of three business units the Bethesda, Maryland-based parent company has located in North Texas.
Lockheed Martin Aeronautics — which makes F-35 and F-16 fighter jets — is based in Fort Worth, and its Missiles and Fire Control business unit is based in Grand Prairie. Missiles and Fire Control produces air defense missile systems and land vehicles, among other things.
Lockheed Martin is a global security and aerospace company with roughly 97,000 employees worldwide.
