Samsung Is Relocating Its U.S. HQ from New Jersey to Plano

The move will bring around 1,000 relocated jobs and be completed "by the end of the year," the South Korean electronics giant said. The relocation aims to strengthen alignment across teams and offices while sharpening the company's focus "on the areas that will drive the greatest impact for our customers, partners, and business," Samsung added.

South Korean electronics giant Samsung has confirmed that it will relocate its U.S. headquarters from Englewood Cliffs, New Jersey, to Plano, the home of its flagship North Texas campus. The move could bring with it around 1,000 relocated jobs, according to multiple reports.

“Samsung Electronics America Inc. is undergoing a business transformation designed to better position our organization for long-term growth and future success,” the company said in a statement. “As part of this effort, we are relocating our U.S. headquarters from New Jersey to our existing campus in Plano, Texas, building on our 30-year presence in the state.”

Samsung said the HQ transition will be completed “by the end of the year,” and aims to strengthen alignment across teams and offices while sharpening the company’s focus “on the areas that will drive the greatest impact for our customers, partners, and business.”

In a nod to employees in New Jersey who will be impacted by the move, Samsung said, “As part of this strategy, we’ll be optimizing parts of the organization to ensure our roles and functions align to key business priorities. We recognize such adjustments will have an impact on our people and we will be providing support to those affected.”

Employees at the company’s current New Jersey headquarters were informed of the move last Friday, NJ.com reported.

Samsung’s flagship Plano campus opened in 2019

Samsung’s new U.S. HQ will be located at its existing Plano campus, according to the Dallas Business Journal.

In 2019, Samsung opened its “flagship” North Texas campus in Plano’s Legacy Central business park, relocating teams based in other facilities in Plano and Richardson into one location. “This move not only provides us with an opportunity to create an improved workplace experience for our Texas-based employees, but truly showcases our continued investment in our Texas roots,” the company said at the time.

In 2023, the company opened a Samsung Networks Innovation Center at its Plano campus.

Joins AT&T in making big HQ moves to Plano

The news comes five months after AT&T announced its own planned headquarters move to Plano from its current home in downtown Dallas.

AT&T CEO John Stankey shared renderings of the Plano AT&T HQ in April. While Samsung plans to have its headquarters moved by end of this year, AT&T’s Plano HQ isn’t slated for partial occupancy until the second half of 2028.

Plano is also home to the U.S. headquarters of Ericsson, the Swedish multinational networking and telecommunications company.
