The 2026 FIFA World Cup is already expected to have $400 million in economic impact on Dallas-Fort Worth, with nine matches scheduled for AT&T Stadium—more than any of the other 15 host venues in the U.S., Canada, and Mexico. But Dallas is aiming for even more. The Dallas City Council voted Wednesday to spend up to $15 million in improvements on the Kay Bailey Hutchinson Convention Center to help the city’s bid to host the World Cup’s International Broadcast Center.

According to the Dallas Morning News, a FIFA spokesman confirmed that Dallas is in the running to host the center, with a a decision to be announced after January 1. If Dallas lands it, the main broadcast feed for all World Cup matches will be hosted out of the convention center, and thousands of media members from around the world will be working from the heart of downtown Dallas.

“It’s FIFA’s decision at the end of the day to award the International Broadcast Center,” Dallas Sports Commission Executive Director Monica Paul said Wednesday, according to the DMN. “We feel that the actions today by council continue to put us where we need to be to secure that international broadcast center.”
