Dallas Finds Spot On Gallup ‘Good Jobs’ Ranking

Many of the metropolitan areas in the ranking are capitals with strong technology sectors.

Dallas is one of the top metro areas in the nation for those seeking full-time work, according to Gallup’s Good Jobs ranking.

Big D ranks No. 10 on the list of metros that is dominated by state capitals, many of which are strong technology hubs. Leading the list for the third year in a row is Washington, D.C.

THE RANKING LOOKS AT 50 MOST-POPULOUS METROS

“All of of the top six metro areas on the list include state capitals (or the nation’s capital), and all have been in the top 10 rankings since Gallup began comparing the the 50 most populous U.S. metros in 2014,” Gallup said the list.

Austin came in at No. 3 on the ranking.

Gallup defines a “good job” as one that offers a worker 30 hours or more per week, and provides a regular paycheck.

Dallas had a 2016 Gallup Good Jobs rate of 50.4 percent, slightly below the 51.1 percent rate it had in 2015, Gallup said.

SITE SELECTION MAGAZINE HONORS DALLAS, TOO

The Gallup ranking is just one the latest indicators that the Dallas economy is strong, and an attractive place for thriving, innovative companies.

Dallas-Fort Worth, for example, was ranked second nationally in Site Selection magazine’s rankings for its “Governor’s Cup” recognition for economic development activity with 231 projects — just behind Chicago’s 424. Houston was third with 210 projects.

Texas was the No. 1 state with 642 projects.
