“I guess you could say we enjoy serving the community—in more ways than one.”

Arlington police officer and ice cream & cake franchisee

Sheriff made headlines in 2019 when he helped save a suicidal teenager who was standing on the edge of a bridge over I-20. The motorcycle police officer asked a truck driver to park under the bridge to catch the teen if he jumped. The teen soon leapt, landing uninjured on the truck’s trailer, and was taken to a hospital for observation. You can see amazing bodycam video of the incident here.
Today, Sheriff, a 22-year Arlington Police Department veteran, and his wife Vanessa Sheriff, a retired nurse and paramedic, are finding even more ways to serve the city—this time, with ice cream.
According to CultureMap Dallas’ Cecilia Lenzen, the Sheriffs have opened a location of Ohio-based Handel’s Homemade Ice Cream right off that same highway, at 4407 Little Rd. and I-20. It’s not the first time the couple has served DFW’s sweet tooth, CultureMap notes. They opened a Nothing Bundt Cakes franchise in Burleson in 2014, and their son runs his own Handel’s ice cream shop in Southlake.
You can read more about the new shop and the Sheriffs’ plans for expansion in the CultureMap Dallas story.
