If you like to hide your money under a mattress, this one is probably not for you.
Yes—around the corner from a Mattress Firm that sells a Sleepy’s Basic Foam Mattress for $129—you can drop more than two-thirds of a million dollars on a mattress.
The new Hästens store on McKinney Avenue just south of Knox Street has the $670,000 Grand Vividus model on display, raised slightly heavenward by a gleaming black plinth. “Meticulously crafted by hand” in Sweden, the 1,600-pound mattress features individually pocketed coils and is made from horsehair top layers, cotton, wool, flax, and Swedish pine.
Bradley Belen co-owns the store with MadaLuxe Group, Hästens’ U.S. distributor. (He’s also managing director of home for MadaLuxe.)
“People spend $50,000 for a car, why not for a bed—where you spend a third of your life?” Belen told the Dallas Morning News, which notes that celebrities including Drake, Brad Pitt, Tom Cruise, and Angelina Jolie sleep on Hästens mattresses.
According to the DMN, king-size Hästens beds start at $25,000. But if you get that blue-and-white check Maranga model, you’ll be missing something you’ll get with every $670,000 Grand Vividus you purchase: an engraved plaque manufactured by the same company that makes Olympic gold medals.

Strategic partnership
Thanks to its recent partnership with MadaLuxe, the Swedish luxury bed-making company is set to open 20 stores across the United States in the next five to seven years. The opening of the Dallas store marks a significant step for both Hästens and MadaLuxe Group in expanding their luxury presence. A new store will open in Houston’s River Oaks luxury shopping district in the fall.
Founded in 1852, Hästens is a sixth-generation family-owned company on a mission to “change the way people think about and prioritize sleep.” With handcrafted beds made using natural, sustainably-sourced materials, it’s no surprise that Hästens is viewed by “celebrities, athletes, and luxury consumers worldwide as the ultimate modern wellness investment.”
According to Belen, the beds are “truly one of a kind” and offer an “unparalleled sleep experience” for the most selective customers.
So if you’re in the market for a truly luxurious slumber, check out Hästens’ latest store on 4433 McKinney Avenue. Who knows, you might just wake up feeling like royalty.
