DallasCIO—a peer leadership network of North Texas chief information officers—has announced the winners of its 2023 Dallas ORBIE Awards, including execs from Textron, CBRE, Reddy Ice, and more.

The organization recognized chief information officers and chief information security officers in seven key categories: Leadership, Global, Large Enterprise, Enterprise, Large Corporate, Corporate, and for the first time ever, CISO.

The awards were presented at an event held at the Hyatt Regency Dallas.

“Member-led, non-commercial programs like the ORBIE Awards build meaningful professional relationships with colleagues facing similar challenges, solving problems and avoiding pitfalls,” DallasCIO Chair Andrew Brock said in a statement. “Successful leaders understand the ‘superpower’ of trusted relationships. In any gathering of technology leaders, the answer is in the room.”

And the 2023 Dallas ORBIE Award winners are…

Chandra Dhandapani, CEO of Global Workplace Solutions for CBRE, received the Leadership ORBIE.

Kimberly Mackenroth, VP & CIO at Textron Inc., received the Global ORBIE for organizations over $2 billion annual revenue & multi-national operations.

Varun Gadhok, SVP & CIO at Surgery Partners, received the Large Enterprise ORBIE for organizations over $1.3 billion annual revenue.

Jim Haring, CIO of MV Transportation, received the Enterprise ORBIE for organizations over $600 million annual revenue.

Neelu Sethi, SVP & CIO at Reddy Ice, received the Large Corporate ORBIE for organizations over $400 million annual revenue.

Lucy Mariappa, CIO at International Leadership of Texas, received the Corporate ORBIE for organizations up to $400 million annual revenue.

Ian Schneller, CISO at Health Care Service Corporation, received the CISO ORBIE for Chief Information Security Officers.

Awards program launched in 1998

The ORBIE Awards is one of the leading tech executive recognition programs in the U.S. Since the program’s launch in 1998, over 500 tech leaders have received the ORBIE Award, honored for their excellence in leadership. Finalists and winners are selected by an independent peer review process, led by prior ORBIE recipients, based on leadership and management effectiveness; business value created by technology innovation; and engagement in industry and community endeavors.

More than 500 guests attended the local ORBIE Awards event, seeing a keynote delivered by two-time Fortune 500 CIO James Dallas. The national partner for the event was Year Up; the media partner was the Dallas Business Journal. 

DallasCIO is one of over 30 chapters of the Inspire Leadership Network, a national membership organization whose members include CIOs from public and private businesses, government, education, healthcare, and nonprofit institutions.
