Southwest Airlines will have Wi-Fi on 100 percent of its aircraft within a year, the Dallas Morning News reported.
The Dallas-based airline will debut faster internet on 700 aircraft beginning next year while it phases out older Boeing 737 Classics. New Boeing 737-Max aircraft will have satellite-based Wi-Fi developed by Panasonic Avionics Corp.
“Customers increasingly want to be connected with speeds that allow them to do what they need to do to be productive. We hear them. We want to make those improvements,” Ryan Green, Southwest’s vice president of marketing, told the DMN.
While internet speeds increase three to four times the current offering, Southwest says prices will not change. Television will remain complimentary. Movies will cost $5 each and internet access will be $8 per day. More entertainment options could be added soon, too.
