An Arlington ISD course gives students the opportunity to receive hands-on learning with musical instruments.
Through a partnership with instrument retailer, Music & Arts, the district can teach students the skills needed to become an instrument repair technician, according to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.
At the end of the two-year course, students can earn certification and be ready to enter the instrument repair field, which is “in critical need of skilled technicians.”
“It’s a CT class; it builds a skill set like woodworking, but when we move to the new fine arts center in 2018, we will have the opportunity to design the perfect music repair shop,” Robert Myers, a coordinator in Arlington ISD’s fine arts department, told the Star-Telegram.
The instructor is a technician from Music & Arts. The retailer also gives the materials and tools needed in the class. The instruments are factory rejects donated by manufacturers or old district-owned marching horns.
