Around one-third of people in the U.S. feel that the COVID-19 crisis is harming their mental health, according to the Kaiser Family Foundation. To help combat this, the Grant Halliburton Foundation and the Dallas County Medical Society are offering mental health resources to North Texas healthcare workers for free.
“As the COVID-19 pandemic continues, mental health for all is critical, especially for frontline workers and healthcare professionals,” Kevin Hall, Grant Halliburton Foundation’s president, said in a statement. “They are risking their lives and may feel more stress and anxiety than the rest of us, and we must support them.”
That’s why the Grant Halliburton Foundation has partnered with the Dallas County Medical Society to spread the word about the Here For Texas Mental Health Navigation Line. This free helpline created by the Grant Halliburton Foundation offers resources, information, and support for mental health and addiction, according to a statement. It also offers telehealth options with more than 300 telehealth providers ready to help so far, according to Hall.
Anyone who calls in will be connected to trained mental health navigators who can provide support and information. The navigators will figure out what a caller’s needs are and within 24 hours, a mental health professional will help identify specific resources for those needs.
“Feeling anxious is part of a normal response to what’s going on for anyone,” Blanca Garcia, Grant Halliburton Foundation’s director of mental health resources, said in a statement. “Now imagine being a frontline healthcare worker. They need support for their mental health, too. That’s where we can help.”
The helpline is not a crisis line, but the navigators can guide people to additional crisis resources if they need to. For more information on the Here For Texas Mental Health Navigation Line, go here.
The Grant Halliburton Foundation helps families and young people recognize the signs of mental illness through education, conferences, and other avenues. It also works to strengthen the mental health resources network, promote better mental health, and help prevent suicide.
The Dallas County Medical Society’s mission is to promote public health and advocate for physicians, while also maintaining professionalism in the practice of medicine.
