The 5miles app has debuted a new feature that allows users to purchase items and have them shipped remotely, the first of its kind in the online marketplace.

The latest update for the 5miles app now includes 5miles Wallet, which eliminates the need for buyers and sellers to meet in person to exchange items or cash.

“5miles’ No. 1 priority is to make the process of buying and selling easier, more user-friendly, and secure,” Lucas Lu, founder and CEO of 5miles said. “Listening to our users and responding to broader consumer demand, we realized that many would welcome or even prefer the option to ship or pay for items directly through the app.”

Sellers can list items for local pickup or shipping using the U.S. Postal Service. FedEx will be available soon.

Payments are processed by Stripe, an online payment system. Funds are released after buyers confirm they received the item in good condition.

Then, sellers can withdraw the money.

The 5miles app is a hyper-local, location-based marketplace that helps buyers and sellers find each other in close proximity. The app also translates into Spanish seamlessly.

And it features a Safe Exchange Area Locator that helps people find safer places to do in-person transactions, such as a police station.
