Trashion is a new fashion in Fort Worth.
A dress made out of magazine pages or skirt made out of plastic bags? Or maybe a suit created out of old computer parts?
They’re fair game in the 2023 Trashion Fashion Contest organized by Keep Fort Worth Beautiful.
The group is encouraging folks in Panther City to think creatively about waste reduction. Creatives can design clothing or accessories using reclaimed, reused, or discarded materials, with prizes awarded for the most innovative and varied designs.
Entries must be at least 50% trash or recyclable material, created by individuals or teams of up to five people, according to the city. Participants are invited to attend the 2023 Earth Party to show off their designs on the catwalk.
According to an announcement, the contest is open to Fort Worth residents and students. Entry is free, with prizes of $100, $75, and $50 for first, second, and third-place winners, respectively. And honorable mentions will also be awarded for the most re-used material, most creative, and most varied materials, each with a prize of $25.
Entries must be submitted by March 23, 2023, and should include the names of the creators, the model, and the title of the outfit. Designs can be submitted via email. Get more details here.
Gift card prizes for the contest have been donated by a “friend of Kellis Park.” Organizers want the event to inspire creativity and innovation, but also raise awareness about the importance of reducing waste and preserving the environment.
