An art installation of 250 large, hand-made origami stars will appear later this month over the ice rink at Galleria Dallas. The vibrant work aims to advance the mission of Paper for Water, a nonprofit that’s raising awareness of the global water crisis and the nonprofit’s mission to bring clean water to communities worldwide. The charity was founded in 2011 by sisters Isabelle and Katherine Adams—then 8 and 5 years old—after they learned that a child was dying every 15 seconds from unclean water and that millions of girls like them were spending their day hauling water rather than attending school.

Paper for Water first partnered with Galleria Dallas back in 2018, when they collaborated to create an installation of origami butterflies called “From Fold to Flight.” Now, 21 and 19, Isabelle and Katherine have worked with volunteers to create an even larger and more impressive installation called “Folding the Future.”

Each of the 250 intricately folded stars—which are 34” and 46” tall—can be sponsored by the public to benefit the Paper for Water mission.

“This year, Paper for Water is thrilled to collaborate again with the Galleria for a second installation and a water walk on April 26th,” Katherine Adams said in a statement. “Sponsoring one star will give two people clean water and sanitation for life. Please join us in our mission of bringing water and the Word to the thirsty, one piece of paper at a time.”

On view April 23 through September 7

Guests will be able to see the art display from Wednesday, April 23, through Sunday, Sept. 7, Galleria Dallas said. Information about Paper for Water and its mission will be exhibited on the shopping center’s Gallery Wall from Saturday, April 26 through Sunday, May 25. The compelling display will not only share the story of the water crisis facing our planet and the impact that it has on children and families but will explore concrete ways North Texans can become involved in the solution.

On Saturday, April 26, North Texans are invited to participate in the organization’s Water Walk at Galleria Dallas. Starting at 8:30 a.m., participants will walk through Galleria Dallas, many carrying large water containers, to demonstrate and learn about the difficult conditions facing those who live without access to clean water. Participation in the event begins at $50. Organizers hope to raise enough funds through their time at Galleria Dallas to fund “one additional well,” the shopping center said.

“Galleria Dallas works to demonstrate strong stewardship of our environment, both locally and globally,” said Megan Townsend, director of marketing and partnerships at Galleria Dallas. “Partnering with Paper for Water allows us to bring attention to the increasingly important role clean water plays in creating strong communities.”

Sponsorships for the second annual Water Walk are available. Information on participation and sponsorship of the event can be found here.
