Last week, Yum! Brands announced that it’s relocating its KFC U.S. headquarters from Louisville, Kentucky, to the KFC and Pizza Hut global HQ in Plano, Texas. It will also ask U.S.-based remote employees to relocate to the campus where their work happens.

“These changes position us for sustainable growth and will help us better serve our customers, employees, franchisees and shareholders,” Yum! CEO David Gibbs said in a statement. “Ultimately, bringing more of our people together on a consistent basis will maximize our unrivaled culture and talent as a competitive advantage. I’m confident this is another important step in growing our iconic restaurant brands globally.”

The news didn’t escape the attention of Texas Governor Greg Abbott, who proposed a Lone Star-flavored name change for KFC.

“Kentucky Fried Chicken is leaving Kentucky & moving to Texas,” Abbot wrote in an X post. “Welcome to Texas, Colonel & company. Many hungry Texans appreciate your move. Now, and hear me out, any chance you would consider a name like Texas Fried Chicken or TFC? It’s a great brand.”

Yum! Brands said the relocation of around 100 KFC U.S. corporate roles will occur over the next six months, while the relocation of 90 remote positions will take place over the next 18 months. “Throughout the process, employees will receive relocation and transition support,” the company said.
