McKinney-based Playful Studios and its Wildcard Alliance subsidiary—led by Words With Friends co-founder Paul Bettner—raised the funding for Wildcard, which combines arena-style battles with a collectible card game.
“With Wildcard, we're focused on fun first, building a next-generation 'spectator sport' to welcome the entire community of competitors, collectors, sponsors, and fans to play together," Better says.

Launched in Palo Alto in 2018, InfStones relocated its HQ to Plano last year. With a goal of bringing the “AWS experience to Web3,” it's landed a new $66 million funding round and says it's nearing unicorn status—a designation for startups valued at $1 billion.
“Our vision is to provide a rugged, easy-to-use Web3 environment to build a more transparent, intelligent world,” CEO Zhenwu Shi says.

Dallas-based STEMuli was founded by CEO Taylor Shead to create a gamified 'metaverse' where kids can earn tokens and have fun while they learn. Piloted since last summer at Dallas Hybrid Prep, it's given both remote and in-class learning an avatar-packed boost.
Now, with a new $3.25 million seed funding round, STEMuli aims to expand its metaverse platform in schools nationally.
