Harold Simmons Park Expansion Underway With Expanded Philanthropic Leadership

Trinity Park Conservancy expanded its advancement team with two directors of philanthropy as it advances Harold Simmons Park, a $325 million, 250-acre project along the Trinity River featuring a 40,000-square-foot event lawn, a six-tower playground, and more.

For decades, Dallas has dreamed of a transformational park along the Trinity River near downtown Dallas. This week, the Trinity Park Conservancy announced that a groundbreaking will finally happen in 2024. The 250-acre Harold Simmons Park will offer community-uniting nature, a stunning playground with towers and tube slides, a prairie walk, a two-acre bike and skate park, overlooks with views of the greenway and the city skyline, and more.

The three-year project will focus on site improvements at the park, along with increasing access to environmental education for local youth. An event held at the park Saturday marked the 30th annual National Public Lands Day—giving local community members a chance to volunteer and to let their voices be heard on the park's future.

“Great cities need and deserve great parks." The organized advocacy of the new Dallas Parks Coalition will equip the city with a competitive advantage, Dallas Mayor Eric Johnson says. Since early 2023, coalition membership has grown from 12 to nearly 20 park-focused organizations throughout the city of Dallas.
