The Cooper Institute launched FitnessGram in 1982 as "the first student fitness report card." Today FitnessGram assesses health-related components of fitness for more than 10 million students in over 10,000 U.S. schools. Now Cooper is partnering with Dallas-based GreenLight Credentials to use its blockchain platform to help students and schools alike securely store and share the records.
The Commit Partnership is a Dallas-based nonprofit that works to ensure all local students have access to an equitable education. Capital One's grant is part of a more than $3 million commitment to address critical community needs.
Commit's annual scorecard evaluates the overall health of Dallas' cradle-to-career pipeline in 11 educational indicators. This year, Commit decided to add a 12th around living wage attainment—"we know that the inequity we see in our student data doesn’t disappear when they leave the classroom," the nonprofit's CEO says.
GreenLight Credentials has been chosen to provide its blockchain platform to the Texas College Bridge. Now more than 6,000 students will be able to electronically share certificates and other records directly with colleges.
