Stirring Up Sustainability: Southwest Launches Bamboo Inflight Cups and Wood Stir Sticks

Dallas-based Southwest Airlines just found more ways to keep single-use plastics out of its planes, with cold drink cups made from a 75% bamboo pulp blend and new birch drink stirrers. The moves could reduce the airline's inflight single-use plastics "by more than 1.5 million pounds annually," Southwest said.

Irving-based Kimberly-Clark is seeking solutions to the world's single-use plastics problem—aiming for a 50 percent reduction in its use of new, fossil fuel-based plastics by 2030.

Biodegradable plastics startup RWDC, which is based in Athens, GA, and Singapore, raised $133 million in a Series-B round last year.
