Waymo Launches Driverless Robotaxi Service in Dallas

Beginning today, "select riders" who have downloaded the Waymo app will receive an invitation to take their first local robotaxi rides in Dallas. Competitors include Uber and Avride, who launched their own Dallas robotaxi service in December (but with a safety driver aboard for now). Lyft plans its own Dallas robotaxi service later this year.

Alphabet-owned Waymo already operates fully driverless robotaxi services for public riders in Austin and four other cities. Soon, it will begin "fully autonomous driving" on Dallas streets in a testing run-up to a public Dallas robotaxi launch next year.

Waymo is the fourth company to announced plans for driverless robotaxis in Dallas. Uber and Austin-based Avride plan to offer a service later this year, with Lyft launching its own "as soon as 2026." GM's Cruise robotaxis were tested on Dallas streets before the business unit was shut down last December.
