UTD Team Develops Rapid Virus Test That’s ‘150 Times More Accurate’—and They’ve Launched a Company to Commercialize It

A team of UT Dallas bioengineers has developed a rapid test for viruses that delivers results as accurate as PCR lab tests within 30 minutes. The test works by attaching gold nanoparticles to antibodies against the virus being tested, then scanning them with two lasers.

Frisco-based InspectIR received the FDA emergency use authorization on Friday for its breathalyzer test, which tests for organic compounds associated with COVID-19 in a person's breath. According to a study, the tests are more effective than the rapid antigen tests available for free from the U.S. government.

Dallas-based My Labs Direct, which offers a 'hassle-free direct-pay alternative to lab testing,' will become the official research lab and COVID-19 testing partner for Baylor University. Baylor will open a molecular PCR lab at its Baylor Research and Innovation Collaborative, allowing for three on-campus testing sites to open for operation.
