Shield AI Opens Office in Kyiv to Train Ukrainians on North Texas-Developed V‑BAT Drones

Three years after acquiring Plano-based Martin UAV and its innovative V-BAT drones, San Diego-based Shield AI is now on the ground in Kyiv. Its team is working with Ukrainian drone operators, delivering training that will prepare them for deploying V-BATs to the front lines of the country's war with Russia.

Developed by Plano-based Martin UAV, V-Bat drones can take off vertically, transition to level flight, and switch back to vertical hover to offer continuous "stare capabilities" over challenging environments and urban terrain. With the new V-Bat Teams AI product from Shield AI, V-Bats can now work together as "an incredible force multiplier," said Shield AI's ex-Navy Seal co-founder.

The local aerospace company, which specializes in unmanned aircraft systems and associated flight control software, is getting snatched up for its V-BAT vertical takeoff and landing (VTOL) unmanned aircraft. Shield AI plans to integrate its autonomy software into the aircraft, positioning V-BAT to meet current and future defense industry needs.
