Texas Governor Gives Agencies Deadline to Implement Plan Banning TikTok

Texas Governor Greg Abbott has put state agencies on the clock to implement policies that would prohibit the downloading or use of apps such as TikTok on state-owned devices.
Abbott announced the statewide model security plan Monday for Texas state agencies to address vulnerabilities presented by the use of TikTok and other software on personal and state-issued devices. Each state agency will have until February 15 to implement its own policy to enforce this statewide plan. “The security risks associated with the use of TikTok on devices used to conduct the important business of our state must not be underestimated or ignored,” Abbott said.

North Texas educational institutions received more than $5.5 million of the more than $54 million in Jobs and Education for Texans grants awarded by the Texas Workforce Commission to public community, state, and technical colleges, school districts, and open enrollment charter schools across the state.

In the inaugural 'Investing in America' report from the Financial Times and Nikkei, Dallas ranks No. 6 overall, and Plano ranks No. 13. Irving shines strongly in the report, too, ranking highly on several key data points. And looking only at workforce and talent, Plano comes in at No. 1 in the entire country.
The report is timely: Just two weeks ago, EDC leaders from across North Texas were part of a TxEDC trade mission to London, Paris, and Frankfurt, Germany.

Vancouver-based Chewters Chocolates—a maker of organic, low-sugar treats best known for its brand ChocXO—has selected Rockwall Technology Park for the site of its new 189,000-SF facility. Four "state-of-the-art" advanced production lines will pump out chocolate treats, creating 120 jobs. A glass viewing wall will give locals a sweet peek at how the candy is made.
Currently under design, the plant should be operational by the beginning of 2024, Chewters says.
