Fort Worth-based Bell has announced an April construction start for its $632 million factory in North Fort Worth, which will build parts for the U.S. Army's MV-75 Future Long Range Assault Aircraft. Collins—which operates facilities in Richardson and Haltom City—will be delivering five critical systems for the aircraft, which is replacing the famed Black Hawk helicopter.
The Zero-G Helmet Mounted Display System+ from Collins Elbit Vision Systems—a joint venture between Fort Worth-based Elbit Systems of America and RTX business Collins Aerospace—gives 21st-century Navy pilots "an augmented view of the battle space" for "faster decision making, increasing survivability, and effectiveness."
Collins, which has a Richardson-based secure communications division, will develop the pod with capability to connect with commercial and military satellites in low, medium, and geostationary orbits. The pod's goal: to enhance situational awareness and enable faster, better decisions "across the battlespace."
Nearly 30 years after the last Concorde flight, American Airlines is betting on a supersonic future. The Fort Worth-based airline has ordered up to 20 Boom Supersonic Overture aircraft, with an option to order up to 40 more. But don't book your flight yet: Denver-based Boom doesn't expect to roll its first Overture off the production line until 2025, and the first passenger flights are slated for 2029.
When they do take flight, the Overtures are expected to fly up to 80 passengers at Mach 1.7 over water, reaching destinations in as little as half the time of subsonic airliners.
