The Arts Community Alliance announced this week it will award grants totaling $150,000 to six arts organizations from the TACA Donna Wilhelm Family New Works Fund and the TACA Bowdon Family Foundation Artist Residency Fund.

The New Works Fund was created to develop “new artistic works for the vitality of the North Texas community.”

“I encourage other donors to invest with TACA in building the capacity of all the arts of our community — to dream big and to transform lives in new ways.”

Organizations receiving the New Works Fund grants are Dallas Black Dance Theatre, Uncharted Territory: Body of Evidence; Dallas Theater Center, Penny Candy; and Dallas Children’s Theater, Yana Wana’s Legend of the Bluebonnet.

The TACA Bowdon Family Foundation Artist Residency Fund was formed when members of the local arts community expressed a need for more support of unique artist-community engagement opportunities.

The performing arts organizations receiving the Artist Residency grants are Dallas Black Dance Theatre with choreographer/filmmaker Juel D. Lane; TITAS with The Kibbutz Contemporary Dance Company; and Junior Players with theater professor Sara Romersberger.

“I encourage other donors to invest with TACA in building the capacity of all the arts of our community — to dream big and to transform lives in new ways,” Board Chair Donna Wilhelm said in a release.

Finalists were named after a competitive application and review process that narrowed down the list of applicants.

Final funding recommendations for organizations were made by a panel of judges based on “innovativeness and merit of their project, the inclusion of artistic collaborations, and the quality of engagement of target audiences,” according to the news release.

TACA also provides 50 performing arts organizations general operating and project-related grants each January. During the last 50 years, TACA has distributed more than $28 million to 162 arts organizations, the organization said in the release.
