Sweet Expansion: Wow! Donuts & Drips Unveils New Shop in Plano, Brews Up Plans for Richardson

The Sim family's gourmet donut and coffee shop expands its unique blend of artisanal fried dough and innovative brews to more of North Texas with a grand opening of its third location this weekend.

The first-generation immigrants' journey to entrepreneurship is marked by culinary creativity, from small-batch donuts to a coffee menu that will soon include rare, premium brews costing up to $35 per serving.

Wow! Donuts & Drips wants people to “experience donuts in a whole new way.” The family-owned gourmet donut and coffee shop is redefining the American favorite, one delicious creation at a time.

With the grand opening of its newest shop this weekend in Plano and plans for another location in Richardson, the Sim family is bringing their concept to even more North Texans.

Founded in 2017 by first-generation immigrants Dung and Sang Sim, Wow! Donuts & Drips is the culmination of a four-decade-long journey to build a better life through entrepreneurship.

A family affair: Crafting the perfect recipe

When the idea for a gourmet donut and coffee shop first took shape, it quickly became a family affair. Husband-and-wife team Dung and Sang, along with their son David and daughter Jenny, poured their energy into developing every aspect of the business, from the name and concept to the brand and recipes.

The initial idea for Wow! took about two years to develop as the family set out to revamp the classic combo of donuts and coffee, a concept that had become stale, co-owner David Sim said in 2018. “We treat each donut like a pastry,” he said in a Voyage interview at the time. “We always let the topping shine and speak for itself but we never forgot what a donut should be.”

According to the co-owner, that would be: “Soft, fluffy, melting in your mouth,” said Sim, who graduated from UT Dallas with a degree in biochemistry. “We have perfected the glazed donut base.”

Now, with deep roots in Plano, they are excited to be expanding the concept to the place they’ve called home for over 25 years, said co-owner David Sim.

Wow! Donuts & Drips new 1500-square-foot shop is located at 501 Talbert Drive in Plano, and it has a location in Dallas.

From classic to cutting-edge: A donut revolution

A tantalizing selection of edible art will greet you inside a Wow! Donuts & Drips location. The company’s in-house pastry team crafts small from-scratch batches daily, using fresh, preservative-free ingredients.

The menu is a mix of nostalgia and sweet innovation. Classic flavors like glazed, chocolate, and sprinkles sit alongside bold new creations like Sasalted caramel coffee cream, creme brulee, and tiramisu. But the culinary creativity doesn’t stop there — Wow! Donuts & Drips also offers mochi donuts, Ooh La La croissant donuts, fresh pastries, and honey butter “little pig” in the blankets.

WOW also touts its kids’ menu that features mini-donuts and non-caffeinated drinks, including hot chocolate and fresh squeezed lemonade.

Sim sees it as a convenient one-stop destination for a “tasty breakfast, midday snack, or evening treat.” One that can make the whole family say, “Wow!”

Brewing up the perfect pairing

No donut shop is complete without the perfect coffee to wash it all down. At Wow! Donuts & Drips, the “Drips” are as important as the donuts themselves.

“We have spent lots of time and effort into perfecting each and every cup. Using the Alpha Dominche Steampunk MOD, we make the perfect cup of coffee and tea,” Sim told Voyage Dallas in an early interview.

The shop partners with local roasters and master blenders to create a curated selection of specialty coffees, lattes, and teas. And for true connoisseurs, the Plano location will soon offer an exclusive menu featuring rare coffees ranging from $20 to $35 per serving.
