MTU Maintenance Dallas, a crucial player in the global network of German aircraft engine giant MTU Aero Engines, is taking a big step forward with a move to a new, expansive facility at Perot Field Fort Worth Alliance Airport.
The cutting-edge facility will allow MTU to conduct on-site engine tests for the first time in North Texas, marking a major milestone for the company.
With a focus on improving engine efficiency, weight, reliability, and manufacturability, MTU said it aims to push the aviation industry forward. The expansion makes MTU Maintenance Dallas one of the largest on-site service and level one maintenance facilities in North America, Nezam Moghadassian, general manager at MTU Maintenance Dallas, said in a news release.
“Our expanded footprint for operations is 10 times larger than our current location, which allows MTU Maintenance Dallas to offer our customers comprehensive, one-stop maintenance solutions at one of the largest on-site service and level one maintenance facilities in North America,” Moghadassian said. “Licensed technicians provide rapid response to maintenance needs, whether scheduled or unscheduled, and other maintenance tasks include engine pre-buy inspections, field service engine repairs and full video borescope capabilities.”
Its new 430,000 square-foot facility at AllianceTexas, more than 10 times the size of its current location in Grapevine, is a significant milestone as MTU expands its worldwide network.
The move is scheduled for Q2 of this year, and the new test cell facility, which can support engines with up to 100,000 pounds of thrust, is planned to be operational by Q4 2023, the company said.
MTU a part of Alliance Airport upgrades
“MTU will be a valuable partner as they serve our existing cargo carriers and attract new commercial aviation customers at Perot Field Fort Worth Alliance Airport,” Christopher Ash, SVP of Aviation Business Development at AFW, said in a statement. “Having the ability to test engines on-site will strengthen and expand MTU’s business and provides the necessary engine test capacity, which is critical to their global and domestic customers.”
Perot Field Fort Worth Alliance Airport, the world’s first industrial airport, features an array of flight services including air cargo, corporate, and government aviation, and is the cornerstone for the 27,000-acre AllianceTexas development, the nation’s most successful public-private partnerships.
The new, state-of-the-art, fixed-based operation (FBO) facility at the airport encompasses more than 20,000 square feet of lounges and meeting facilities along with an additional 68,000 square feet of attached hangar space.
Alliance Aviation Services has six hangars totaling roughly 200,000 square feet to support the growing fleet of based aircraft. The new space allows for additional first-class accommodations for flight crews, as well as more flexible, spacious lounges for pilots and passengers. Outdoor seating with ramp views has been integrated into the landscape as well.
‘One-stop maintenance solutions’
MTU Maintenance also is expanding capabilities at its facilities in Australia, Brazil and the USA.
“These new approvals for our ON-SITEPlus network are another important step in achieving MTU’s mission to keep growing our on-site services for aero engines, by providing the right capabilities in the right locations,” said André Sinanian, managing director & SVP of MTU Maintenance Berlin-Brandenburg GmbH and responsible for the Global On-Site & Field Service Network at MTU Aero Engines.
“The expanded operations, with the addition of the engine testing capability, will allow MTU Maintenance Dallas to offer our customers comprehensive, one-stop maintenance solutions at one of the largest on-site service and level one maintenance facilities in North America,” Moghadassian said.
The story was updated on April 13, at 3:45 p.m. to clarify details about MTU engine testing in North Texas. Onsite engine testing is a new milestone for MTU Maintenance Dallas. The company has numerous engine test facilities and capabilities in facilities located in Germany, Canada, and China.
