A looming box office bonanza could rival the summer’s $235 million “Barbenheimer” opening weekend—and Cinemark is swiftly seizing the moment.
The Plano-based movie theater chain announced today that fans “can now reserve an entire auditorium for the ultimate in-theater experience” of Taylor Swift | The Eras Tour concert film.
So-called “Private Swiftie Parties,” available exclusively at Cinemark theaters across the U.S., are on sale now at the company’s website and through its mobile app. They’ll be available at participating locations for up to 40 fans for $800, plus taxes and fees.
Concert tour has packed stadiums—and caused mini-earthquakes
Swift’s global “Eras” concert tour swept North America this summer, packing stadiums across the U.S., causing a 2.3 magnitude earthquake, and racking up record ticket sales that could reach more than $1.4 billion when the global tour ends in 2024, according to the New York Times. That would make Swift’s tour the highest-grossing one in history, surpassing Elton John’s $939 million farewell tour.
All that hype has created a surfeit of Swiftie hysteria that only a major movie event can satiate. The date? Friday, October 13, when Taylor Swift | The Eras Tour concert film hits theaters everywhere.
According to Variety, the concert film has already earned a staggering $26 million in presale tickets with the opening still a full month away.
‘Sing and dance along with friends and family’
“We’re excited to offer fans the ultimate Taylor Swift | The Eras Tour concert film VIP experience in their own private Cinemark auditorium,” Wanda Gierhart Fearing, Cinemark chief marketing and content officer, said in a statement. “We’re wonderstruck by this event’s sensational ticket sales and are thrilled to add a new era to our fan-favorite Private Watch Parties with our Private Swiftie Parties.”
“Our larger-than-life screens and captivating surround sound deliver a most enchanting environment to sing and dance along with friends and family to the concert of the decade,” Fearing added.
Cinemark noted that all its theaters offer laser projection powered by Cinionic, offering “an elevated visual experience with brighter colors and deeper contrast, which will immerse fans into a new on-screen era.”
The theater chain’s loyalty members will also be able enter a Private Swiftie Party Sweepstakes for a chance to win their own private viewing of the concert film.
Cinemark’s company as a whole, which features various brands that also include Century, Tinseltown and Rave, operates 514 theaters throughout the hemisphere, with 5,812 screens in 42 states domestically and 14 countries throughout South and Central America.
