Eight North Texas companies have landed on Forbes‘ list of America’s Largest Private Companies.
To be eligible, companies must have reported revenue greater than $2 billion in the most recent fiscal year. The 2017 list ranks 225 companies around the nation.
With $6.5 billion in revenue, Grand Prairie-based Republic National Distributing Company was the highest ranking North Texas company at No. 49. Other local companies featured are Energy Future Holdings, Neiman Marcus Group, Sammons Enterprises, Mary Kay, Ben E. Keith, Golden Living Healthcare, and Hunt Consolidated/Hunt Oil.
This is the 33rd year Forbes has produced the private companies list. Collectively, the 225 ranked companies made $1.57 trillion in revenues during the last fiscal year.
For the 10th consecutive year, Minnesota-based Cargill claimed the top spot followed by Kansas-based Koch Industries and Idaho-based Albertsons.
San Antonio-based HEB Grocery Co. was the highest-ranking Texas company at No. 12.
Overall, the Lone Star State had 15 companies on the annual list with North Texas businesses comprising more than half of that total.

The inaugural October 8th Texas Blockchain Summit could be a watershed event for making Texas "the jurisdiction of choice" for Bitcoin and other digital currencies. Tech Titans has released its list of the 22 fastest-growing tech companies in North Texas in 2021, based on three-year revenue growth. The top rankings and growth percentages will be announced at the Tech Titans Awards Gala on January 19, 2022.
