A new initiative from the Dallas Regional Chamber, the voice of business and champion of economic development and growth in the Dallas region, aims to raise awareness around the importance of family-friendly policies in the workplace.
Presented by PNC Bank, the Best Place for Working Parents Dallas initiative uses a first-of-its-kind online self assessment to determine if local businesses are family friendly.
In taking the assessment, which compares family-friendly benefits and policies to companies of similar size and industry, employers are able to see if they qualify for the Best Place for Working Parents business designation. Each question focuses on 10 policies—such as paid time off, working remotely, breastfeeding benefits, and backup child care—that positively impact employee attraction, retention, satisfaction, and productivity.
If a business achieves the designation, it will be rewarded with a digital badge that can be shared via web, social media, or print. The DRC also plans to recognize local recipients of the Best Place for Working Parents designation at its second annual State of Early Education on Feb. 23.
“In today’s remote and hybrid workplaces, we know family-friendly policies, such as flexible hours, child care assistance, parental leave for parents of newborns, and much more are critical in attracting and retaining the best talent,” DRC President and CEO Dale Petroskey said. “In our pledge to make the Dallas region the best place in the U.S. for all people to live, work, and do business, we encourage our businesses to commit and expand their family-friendly workplace policies in order to support families, grow their bottom line, and continue strengthening the region’s talented workforce.”
The chamber encourages company executives, human resources, or talent management staff members to take the Best Place for Working Parents Dallas self-assessment on their employer’s behalf. In addition to Dallas, the program is available in Austin, Fort Worth, and San Antonio.
