Lime has partnered with the Dallas Yarn Bombers, a local knitting group, to adorn its Dallas scooters with red, white, and blue yarn for the week of July 4th. Those who find one of these special scooters will have the opportunity to win 20 free trips on Lime.
In order to win the award, riders must post their best July 4th themed photo with the yarn-adorned scooter, tag both @lime and @dallasyarnbombers, and include the hashtag #unlocklife.
This isn’t the first time the Dallas Yarn Bombers have made the city more festive. Since its formation in 2011, the group has created cozy installations for the Winspear Opera House, Klyde Warren Park, Dallas Heritage Village, and more.
Before its collaboration with Lime, the Dallas Yarn Bombers had recently partnered with Downtown Dallas Inc. to “yarn bomb” tree trunks and bicycle racks along Dallas’ Main Street, covering them with vibrant knit pieces and inspiring joy among onlookers.
Sally Ackerman, self-proclaimed “head knit-wit” of Dallas Yarn Bombers told Dallas Observer the group has worked on other projects around North Texas, including the opening of Klyde Warren park and events at Dallas Heritage Village, Dallas Theater Center, and downtown Plano.
“We’re not trying to spread a political agenda,” Ackerman told the Observer. “The message is ‘Be joyful.’ When you see a surprising thing like a yarn bomb on a tree or a bicycle rack, and it makes you smile or gives you a joyful reaction, then that’s wonderful.”
One scooter for here, please
Lime also announced this week it’s rolling out a global feature that allows riders to reserve a scooter in advance.
Earlier this year, the a test reserve program was rolled out in France, Australia, and Israel. Starting Monday, riders in the U.S. were able to pre-book an available scooter up to 15 minutes before hopping on and riding away. The global release is soon to follow.
“We’re thrilled to be able to add another level of reliability to the scooter-sharing process,” Will Lee, Product Manager at Lime, said in a statement. “Micromobility riders want to know that a vehicle will be available for them every time they need one, and Lime’s new scooter reserve feature is another critical step in ensuring that those expectations are met.”
To reserve a scooter, riders must open the app, click an available scooter, and tap the “Reserve” button in the banner. Then, a quick click of the “Start Reservation” button takes the two-wheeler off the market for 15 minutes.
Get on the list.
