On April 20 at The Statler hotel in downtown Dallas, the Dallas Builders Association presented awards in 80-plus categories to leading area builders, remodelers, developers, and associates “who have made a significant and creative contribution in residential marketing through specific achievements”—from sprawling, innovative residential developments to style-setting examples of interior design.
The Dallas BA’s 45th annual McSAM awards—named for “maximum creativity in sales and marketing”—received around 500 entries this year, the organization said, and were presented in partnership with Southern Roofing. This year’s gala was emceed by Amy Vanderoef, former longtime host of WFAA’s “Good Morning Texas.”
The awards were judged by industry experts from around the country including architects, interior designers, and new home marketing professionals, the Dallas BA said.
Ten top winners of the event’s industry-judged awards included:
M/I Homes :: McSAM Builder of the Year
Winning Builder of the Year for the fifth consecutive year, M/I Homes was honored for exhibiting exceptional market performance, maintaining strong relationships with trade partners, and actively engaging with its communities. Hillwood snags 12 awards, including Developer of the Year for third consecutive year
A standout at this year’s awards was Dallas-based Hillwood Communities, which snagged 12 awards including winning Developer of the Year for the third consecutive year (its sixth win in the category). Besides winning the award for Master Planned Community of the Year for Union Park in Little Elm, Hillwood also won two new Dallas BA awards for 2024: the Best on Boards Community award for Treeline—a community of 2,700 homes opening in Justin in 2025—and the Best New Amenity award for Mini Town Park at Harvest in Northlake. Additionally, Pecan Square by Hillwood Communities, last year’s winner of the Master-Planned Community category, was acknowledged for its Best Lifestyle Annual Program, which features over 300 events.
People’s Choice competition based on consumer voting
The event’s People’s Choice competition rewards builders based on consumer voting. To identify the People’s Choice winners, the Dallas Building Association said it enlists the help of a third-party firm that sends an online survey to hundreds of homebuyers, asking for feedback on everything from home design to sales experience, customer service, and overall satisfaction.
Highland Homes won the People’s Choice Builder of the Year honors, the Dallas BA said.
Huffines Communities wins five awards
Another big award winner at the 2024 gala was Huffines Communities, whose five awards included one for Edward Beecherl as Developer Professional of the Year and one for Taylor Cowan of Inspiration as Lifestyle Director of the Year.
