Flamenco Fever is about to give North Texas a stirring, swirling, stage-stamping taste of Spain during Hispanic Heritage Month.

The Oak Cliff-based nonprofit is presenting a feverish array of concerts, performances, and paella-and-beer gatherings from September 7 to October 20, capped by the inaugural Texas Flamenco Festival in October.

At the heart of the schedule are performances by Ida y Vuelta Flamenco, Dallas-Fort Worth’s only professional flamenco group, along with guest artists from around the world. Events will be held across Texas, including in Dallas, McKinney, Plano, and San Antonio

Flamenco Fever’s 7th Fall Flamenco Residency

North Texas will be getting a distinct Spanish accent over the next several weeks, thanks to Flamenco Fever’s 7th Fall Flamenco Residency, which will feature dozens of activities in a wide variety of venues.

Since 2018, singers, guitarists, and dancers from around the globe have been invited to Dallas for the eight-week residency “to fuel the local flamenco flame,” the nonprofit said. The visiting artists will be offering “top-notch performances” while also training local students in the flamenco arts. The students will perform on stage during select shows around North Texas.

First-ever Texas Flamenco Festival

In October, the first-ever Texas Flamenco Festival will feature 10 events, including three concerts and four workshops with “legendary artists” christening the newly opened La Cantera Arts Conservatory at 1050 N. Westmoreland Road in Oak Cliff.

The new brick-and-mortar headquarters for Flamenco Fever has been launched thanks to the donation of a 4,600-square-foot storefront. It was transformed this summer into a dance studio and event space designed specifically for flamenco and other performing arts, the nonprofit said.

Flamenco Fever said local schools, restaurants, festivals, and theaters are hosting its professional-level performers, assisted by grants that defray the costs of travel and housing.

TRES ARTES “THE PAINTER & THE POET” – SATURDAY, SEPT. 7, AT 7:30 P.M.
Latino Cultural Center, 2600 Live Oak St, Dallas
Tres Artes “The Painter & the Poet” tells the tragic love story between Salvador Dali and Federico Garcia Lorca whose romance was a secret until the death of Francisco Franco in 1975.  The untold romance was set to a flamenco soundtrack in 2023 by various artists under the direction of local Director/Producer Julia Alcántara. This special evening combines poetry, history, music and dance into one enthralling performance.  “Tres Artes” is an evening of state-of-the-art choreography, elegant costuming and incredible music, delving into the provocative history of Spain, the rise of Surrealism, the LGBTQ community and the Fascist Regime in the early 20th century.  Video projections by VJ Seye. 

EXCERPTS FROM TRES ARTS “THE PAINTER & THE POET” – FRIDAY, SEPT. 13, FROM 8-10 P.M.
McKinney Performing Arts Center, 111 N Tennessee St, McKinney
Excerpts from Tres Artes will be presented in the fully equipped Courthouse Theater at McKinney Town. Square – an intimate venue perfect for a flamenco performance.

PAELLA Y PASION IX – FRIDAY, SEPT 20, FROM 6-9 P.M.
The Bath House Cultural Center, 521 E. Lawther Dr. Dallas
This free community event offers a culinary adventure and cultural experience. Paella, sangria and beer will be for sale while a show celebrates Hispanic culture in the theater. This family event will help raise money for La Cantera Arts Conservatory and their annual festival.

FLAMENCO FEVER DINNER SHOW PERFORMANCE – FRIDAY, SEPT 27, AT 7:30 P.M.

Guest artists will join Flamenco Fever for a dinner show at this far north locale. Visitors to the Turkish  Cafe, will be transported to another world in this exotic experience.  Half-price margaritas and sangria will be included with ticket purchase.
