Carrollton’s ROMCO Equipment Acquires Sierra Machinery, Expands Into New Mexico

Founded in 1981, Sierra Machinery is a premier full-service distributor of construction, mining, and industrial equipment, representing Volvo Construction Equipment, Doosan, Gradall Excavators, Chicago Pneumatic, Gomaco, Terex MPS, Etnyre, and Epiroc, Superior Broom, Bomag, and SkyJack.

Carrollton-based ROMCO Equipment Co. has acquired Sierra Machinery, expanding its footprint in the Southwest in a strategic move that the company said shows its commitment to growth, expansion, and long-term success.

“Sierra Machinery has been an employee focused company offering premium products and outstanding customer support for over 40 years,” ROMCO President Steve Passmore said in a statement. “These core values align with ROMCO Equipment Co., and we’re excited to welcome Sierra Machinery and their customers into the ROMCO family.”

Financial details were not disclosed about the deal, which closed July 25 and represents the transfer of ownership of Sierra Machinery and its two locations in El Paso and Artesia, New Mexico.

Sierra Machinery was founded by brother and sister Al and Maria Teran in 1981 and has developed a trusted name in the industry as a premier full-service distributor of construction, mining, and industrial equipment, ROMCO said. Sierra represents Volvo Construction Equipment, Doosan, Gradall Excavators, Chicago Pneumatic, Gomaco, Terex MPS, Etnyre, and Epiroc, Superior Broom, Bomag, and SkyJack.

ROMCO has served the Texas equipment market since 1961

ROMCO has served the Texas equipment market since 1961 and said it’s dedicated to providing high-quality equipment and highly productive products with strong product support through its 14 locations. ROMCO’s parent company is SMT, which has more than 2,200 employees in 31 countries and is a major partner with Volvo Group.

Maria Teran, who had been president and CEO of Sierra Machinery, will continue in a leadership role while ROMCO and Sierra integrate their operations, ROMCO said.

“We look forward to working hand in hand with SMT and ROMCO to continue the excellent service and products we have been known for 43 years,” Teran said. “This team effort will afford our employees and customers the security, sustainability, and long-term assurances they deserve.”
