Baker Tilly Elevates Strategic Leader to Drive Growth in Tax Operations

Chris Johnson, who joined Baker Tilly in 2019 through the acquisition of Montgomery Coscia Greilich LLP, is now managing principal of tax operations.

Baker Tilly, a leading advisory, tax, and assurance firm, has promoted Chris Johnson to managing principal of tax operations, effective June 1, 2024.

Johnson, who joined Baker Tilly in 2019 through the strategic acquisition of Montgomery Coscia Greilich LLP, has played a pivotal role in the firm’s success, particularly in his positions as central region tax leader and Baker Tilly International tax leader. Baker Tilly’s presence in North Texas includes offices in Dallas and Frisco.

Lynette Stolarzyk, managing principal of tax services, praised Johnson’s contributions, noting his “exceptional ability to envision and address the firm’s long-term needs.” She added that under Johnson’s leadership, “the tax service line will improve our strategic alignment and drive toward sustained success.”

In his new role, Johnson will provide strategic direction for Baker Tilly’s tax operations while continuing to serve as the central region tax leader until a successor is identified. He will also maintain his role as tax leader for Baker Tilly International, leveraging the firm’s global network, which spans 141 territories.

In a statement, Johnson expressed his enthusiasm for the new position, saying, “I am honored to step into this role and excited about the opportunity to contribute to Baker Tilly’s growth and success.” He added that he looks forward to “working with our talented team to drive strategic initiatives and deliver exceptional value to our clients.”

Baker Tilly, which operates through an alternative practice structure in accordance with the AICPA Code of Professional Conduct and applicable laws, has a significant presence in major U.S. regions and leading financial centers worldwide, including New York, London, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Chicago, and Boston.

The firm is part of Baker Tilly International, a global network of independent accounting and business advisory firms with some 43,000 professionals and a combined worldwide revenue of $5.2 billion.

Johnson’s promotion comes at a time of growth for Baker Tilly, which has been expanding its service offerings and geographic reach. The firm’s tax services division, which Johnson will now lead operationally, provides a wide range of solutions, including corporate tax, international tax, state and local tax, and private client services.

The firm was recently named to Forbes’ list of America’s Best Tax and Accounting Firms for 2024.
