Aligned Data Centers Expands DFW Footprint as It Races to Serve AI/Cloud Workloads

With more than a decade of innovation in cooling technologies and 5,000+ MW of future capacity, Plano-based Aligned plans to open a new data center on a 27-acre site in Mansfield.

Aligned Data Centers—a Plano-based tech infrastructure company offering adaptive scale data centers and build-to-scale solutions for global hyperscale and enterprise customers—announced it will open a new data center in Mansfield to help meet demand for AI, cloud, and enterprise applications.

The campus, Aligned’s DFW-03, will be on a 27-acre site at 3801 Britton Road near State Highway 360 in the eastern part of Mansfield. The new data center marks an expansion of the company’s presence in Dallas-Fort Worth, the company said.

“The Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex provides the ideal foundation for Aligned’s continued expansion,” Aligned CEO Andrew Schaap said in a statement. “We’re thrilled to bring our innovative data center solutions to Mansfield. Our focus will be on delivering the high-performance infrastructure our customers require to power their AI/cloud workloads and support the highest-density GPUs, with near-term power availability.”

Aligned Data Centers held a groundbreaking ceremony for the Mansfield project on September 30. The company said initial capacity is anticipated to be available as early as the fourth quarter this year. “Thanks in part to a flexible design and modular/prefabricated critical equipment strategy, we’re able to build extremely fast,” Aligned told Dallas Innovates.

Partnering with the city of Mansfield

The company also announced it has established a “Roots for the Future Fund” in partnership with the city of Mansfield. Aligned said the fund supports city beautification as well as the planting of native trees in the local area, providing shade, improving air quality, and enhancing the overall sustainability of the Mansfield community.

“Aligned Data Centers has continued to show that it’s more than a business with a location in Mansfield,” Mansfield Mayor Michael Evans said. “With the Roots for the Future Fund, the company is adding another stitch to the fabric of Mansfield as a neighbor and community leader.”

Schaap said the company and the city have developed a strong relationship.

“We’re incredibly grateful for the collaborative spirit of the City of Mansfield as well as the warm welcome we’ve received from the Mansfield community,” the CEO said. “This partnership has been instrumental in bringing this project to fruition. Aligned is committed to being a responsible corporate citizen and looks forward to our continued collaboration with the community to support local initiatives and contribute to the continued growth, prosperity and sustainability of the region.”

NextGen data center development in Mansfield and beyond

Aligned said it is strategically positioned to lead the next phase of data center development. With more than a decade of innovation in cooling technologies and 5,000+ MW of future capacity, the company said it is “uniquely equipped” to deliver the speed, scale, and quality of infrastructure customers require to succeed in this rapidly evolving landscape.

Aligned’s DFW-03 leverages the company’s adaptive modular infrastructure, accelerating deployments through prefabrication of components and on-site delivery of critical equipment. The company said its flexible design approach minimizes cost and risk while enhancing quality and sustainability.

Aligned said the approach also empowers its customers with the flexibility to optimize their deployments for various workloads, including AI, cloud, and enterprise applications, by tailoring density, resiliency, and redundancy. The company said that DFW-03 also features Aligned’s proprietary, award-winning air and liquid cooling technologies that enable customers to easily transition from air-cooled to liquid-cooled systems, or deploy hybrid cooling within the same data hall, accommodating densities upwards of 350 kW per rack.

Aligned’s liquid cooling technology, DeltaFlow, which launched in the last year, is designed to support the high-density compute requirements of next-generation applications and high-performance computing, including AI and machine learning.

The company said it’s also bringing its award-winning air-cooling technology, Delta Cube, to Latin America to be leveraged by the company’s LATAM subsidiary, ODATA, which is expanding rapidly in South America. Aligned also said it’s championing the renewable energy transition in Latin America via ODATA, with several key renewable energy production partnerships.

Funding and leadership

Aligned announced in January that it had completed of another round of capital, raising more than $5 billion of new primary equity and more than $7 billion of new debt commitments to fund “accelerated platform expansion and ongoing innovation.”

The new funding will accelerate development of Aligned’s 5+GW of planned future capacity across the Americas, positioning it to meet surging demand for AI-ready infrastructure among its hyperscale and large enterprise customers.

Also, earlier this month, Aligned announced four new executive leadership appointments.

Michael Morris was promoted to chief development officer from his previous position as executive vice president of design and construction, where he was responsible for overseeing data center campus development, ensuring alignment with best-in-industry design, efficiency, and operational objectives, as well as speed-to-market targets. In his new role, Morris will lead Aligned’s strategic development initiatives, focusing on expanding the company’s data center footprint to meet the increasing demand for scalable and adaptable infrastructure.

Michael Welch was promoted to chief technology officer from his previous role as SVP, procurement and design. As CTO, Welch will lead the implementation of new technologies to keep the company at the forefront of the industry. He also will develop and implement strategies for sustainable and efficient power generation solutions; drive the go-to-market strategy for platform delivery, ensuring successful product launches and market penetration; and strategize and oversee Aligned’s advanced supply chain.

Shelby Clark, Aligned’s vice president of people and culture, has assumed the role of chief people officer. She is responsible for overseeing Aligned’s HR functions, including talent acquisition, employee engagement, leadership development, and company culture, with the primary goal of maximizing employee potential and aligning the workforce strategy with the company’s strategic objectives.

Matthew Chambliss, formerly senior vice president, finance, has taken the role of EVP, commercial strategy and energy. In this new role, Chambliss is responsible for driving Aligned’s continued growth and success by uniting the sales, finance, legal, project development, and energy teams, thereby ensuring seamless execution while balancing speed-to-market, risk mitigation, and financial performance.
